A HUGE Need for a better monitoring of sex offenders

We need one huge database that actually monitors ALL sex offenders in the nation. The DOJ national website is ok but does not update the site frequently enough. Nor do the states monitor the offenders closely. There needs to be more of a commitment towards keeping these perverts away from our children and loved ones!!!! We have been trying to track some of these creeps and we have been tracking from one state to the other ...more »

Disclose Company Bio of "IdeaScale"

Considering that IdeaScale seems to be enjoying a huge governmental contract, supplying virtually ALL of the government agencies, (including, of course, the DOJ), I find it interesting that I cannot seem to find a company bio that lists officers, owners, or subsidiaries of "IdeaScale". In the interest of "transparency" may I suggest that EACH government website, including this one, using "IdeaScale" post a complete and ...more »

National Crime GIS/Database

I would like to see a national Crime GIS database. A national database, similar to the Uniform Crime Reports but in a real time GIS accessible system. Police departments around the country would enter criminal activity of the day into the system. And residents could access that information via a web portal and see where, when and what crimes were taking place. This would be different from the UCR in that not convictions ...more »

Protect every citizens right to freedom of speech

There has developed an obvious disconnect between the government and the people. The people that are governed are the body that should have a voice in the way that our country is run. Large corporations and insurance companies have way too much power and with the big banks just do whatever they want. They are not above the law. This administration has the hopes of an entire country to make the changes. There are so many ...more »

Promote dialogue between Sr. Leaders & Staff?

Blogging tools or other social media technologies could be used to make it easier for Sr. Leaders at DOJ and staff to have real discussions. In addition to helping ferret out new ways to make the Dept. more efficient, I think this would help ensure that the day-to-day actions our in line with Dept's long term vision. Get leaders blogging & let staff respond!

On transparency

Hi DOJ, Thank you for this opportunity. President Obama has repeatedly stated that he prefers to move forward, rather than revisit the actions of the previous administration. As a result, we now seem to have a need for transparency due to the subsequent clouding. Since ALL crime everywhere is always in the past, justice was invented to provide closure, through legal, transparent means. Though I believe I have some comprehension ...more »

You really want to be transparent?

Then publish, in a timely manner, the names of all politicans, and their conversations, who contact the DOJ to discuss, inquire or give an opinion on any case under the DOJ. Remember the Jane Harman affair?..clear cut case if there ever was one...and what happened?...Nothing. Want to share who squelched that? You want people to work with you? O.K., I have a deal for you. If you don't want to publish what I suggested ...more »

Online Public Access to Victims Complaints and The Responses

I would like to see a method that would allow public oversight concerning law enforcement and DOJ responses to formal complaints about criminal activity/victimization. Separately we could press for the inclusion of organized stalking, or stalking by three or more perpetrators as a distinct category. Ideally, I would like to see an ONLINE daily or weekly log accessible to the public, showing all the different categories ...more »

ARRA Reporting requirements

The reporting requirements under the ARRA are cumbersome. I understand the need, but it would be so much easier for the person responsible for completing the periodic reports if they were to be found in one place, instead of going to one site for the PMT, one for the 425 and one for the 1512 c. When you have more than one ARRA grant award it is difficult to remember what report is required, where to go to complete the ...more »

counterintelligence program

If we are serious about having a full, robust program of counterintelligence (not just counterespionage), it seems to me we need an agency or at least a division or branch devoted to countering intelligence threats. To do this, some basic elements would have to unite the following in one place: 1) True expertise on opposing intelligence institutions. For each institution, nation, or transnational group that is or could ...more »

Publish AG Holder's daily schedule online

I've seen other government officials do this, and it seems like a good way to show the taxpayer what the principal (Attorney General) is doing on the job. You could also link public calendar items (speeches, ceremonies, etc) to the event page, which would provide more detailed information and allow interested citizens to RSVP or plan to attend.

Model OpenDOJ after the Top 5 OpenGov Sites

OpenDOJ was ranked among the bottom 5 OpenGov sites by the OMB, see link below: http://www.ombwatch.org/node/10785 Suggestions for improving your process: 1) Allow the "off-topic" portal to remain OPEN. There in no need to modify the process for ideas that fall out-of-scope. The same transparent process will be equally effective for off-topic posts, and for in-house (intranet-based, employee) suggestions as ...more »

More Intuitive Reporting of Performance Information

The Department of Justice should look at best practices for reporting performance information currently in use by state governments. Due to the more restrictive budget climates faced by state governments, they are much further along in effectively collecting and reporting useful performance information to the public. The Government Accounting and Standards Board (GASB) has developed Service Efforts and Accomplishments ...more »
