Public Feedback & Involvement, Tools & Strategies...

How can our agency encourage two-way conversations with the public to share ideas and expertise to improve our work? What specific tools and strategies should we use to encourage these public conversations?

Solicit public input on inmate activities

Background: The Bureau of Prisons manages over 200,000 inmates, about one tenth of whom, as employees of Federal Prison Industries (FPI), are currently productively engaged in manufacturing. All of us have a fundamental need to play a meaningful role in society, and prison inmates are no exception. Learning how to play a constructive role in society is a key element of rehabilitation. In many cases inmates have never ...more »

Online Public Access to Victims Complaints and The Responses

I would like to see a method that would allow public oversight concerning law enforcement and DOJ responses to formal complaints about criminal activity/victimization. Separately we could press for the inclusion of organized stalking, or stalking by three or more perpetrators as a distinct category. Ideally, I would like to see an ONLINE daily or weekly log accessible to the public, showing all the different categories ...more »

The 1,600 members of Open Source for America are dedicated to supporting and guiding federal efforts to make the US government more open through the use of open source software. We have established recommendations for all agencies to consider in their Open Government Plans, with these recommendations especially highlighting the need to remove barriers to the successful leveraging of open source software and open IT more ...more »

National We-Tip Line : www.tip.gov

I am rather perplexed about there not being a Virtual Tip line. For issues such as drugs or prostitution or other crimes a Virtual Drop Box is just what the Doctor ordered. Just like there is a 911 (national Emergency), there needs to be a 411 Line with Regards to Tips. REPORT: (A) Prostitution, (B) Drugs, (C) Crime, (D) Organized Crime, (E) Govt Corruption, (F) Local Police Corruption. Prostitution is a huge problem ...more »

A means to report financial waste in law enforcement

There needs to be some place to report financial waste in law enforcement. It looks like a lot of money is being wasted when someone is sentenced to up to 8 years in prison for stealing a $3.99 bag of shredded cheese. A life sentence for 0.03 grams of methamphetamine is not the best use of resources either. A way for defendants to get a somewhat reduced sentence in exchange for information leading to the conviction ...more »

Organized stalking

Over 7 years ago, I became aware that I was being stalked, not by one person, but many different unfamiliar people. It started out with one or more people coming near me and speaking to someone on their cell informing them of what I was doing and wearing. If I was going somewhere at any distance, a vehicle would come out of no where, ride up to my bumper and back off, as to see if I was alone. I had to leave my job ...more »

Government - Society Communication by Forums

All Government Agencies, Representatives, Senators, etc. should by Law, create a Forum, structured by Topics, in which all citizens might post Complaints, Doubts, Observations, Praise or Congratulations Messages, which the Forum´s organization must reply, in Public, in the Forum, in a reasonable lapse of time.

Allow use of social media

DOJ agencies should adopt use of social media tools, such as Twitter, as a means to outreach, get information out about what they are doing, and engage in dialogue with the public.

Develop an OpenDOJ Social Strategy

Disruptive Technologies: A Holistic, Pragmatic Approach New technologies are emerging at a faster pace than Agencies can swallow. The rate of obsolescence outpaces the pace of change. Despite the new technology flood, Agencies lack a strategy to on-board these disruptions. As a result, they often react, flounder, or simply ignore them. We can solve these problems in four major areas of practice: Leadership ...more »

CHOOSING THE PRESIDENT'S CABINET

I believe most if not all of the president's cabinet along with the supreme court should be elected not appointed. This would prevent the president from rewarding buddies for favors with a job.

Not "disappearing" ideas that people post would be a grand start

This section is labeled "Public Feedback" and yet you have already relegated my first and only other post to some "off topic" dustbin that I cannot seem to find. Apparently, you are not actually interested in public feedback?
